Statement of Purpose

The Lullaby Preservation League exists in order to promote intergenerational and intercultural sharing of music which soothes. Our core activities are the lullaby singaround, local traveling teams and the compilation, on the Lullaby Preservation League website, of music which soothes.

Because of time constraints, media overload, distance from extended family and other factors, the songs from our past generations are being lost. Our goal is to preserve those songs and disseminate them to children and others who can benifit from them. As this music is being lost, we are all at risk of losing what it can mean to us. Lullabies act to preserve who we are, by reminding us that we are worth cherishing in all circumstances, no matter how tired, no matter how ill, no matter, how cranky, there is music that can soothe. And in the absence of good company to give this to us we can give it to ourselves.

Lullaby singaround events will be scheduled on a regular basis wherever enough active league members can be gathered. These events will be open to everyone who wishes to attend or to participate. Initially such events will be held at the Nibbles Play Cafe at 13 Huntington Lane in Wheeling Illinois. More information on these events is available here.

We use traveling teams to reach out to families, to individuals in illness and recovery and to people at risk of violence or abuse. We wish to become as wealthy in the area of music which soothes as the world in general is not. More information on joining or organizing a traveling team in your area is available here.
